Special Envoy, Myanmar

Dr. William Sabandar serves as the Special Envoy of ASEAN Secretary General for Post-Nargis recovery in Myanmar and the Head ASEAN Humanitarian Task Force Operation since April 2009. He also, since October 2008, has been intermittently seconded by the Government of Indonesia as the Chief Technical Advisor for the ASEAN’s Post-Nargis operation.  Between 2005 and 2009, he was with the Indonesian Agency for Post-Tsunami Reconstruction of Aceh and Nias (BRR Aceh-Nias), as the Director of Nias Recovery, in charge to coordinate and implement the post-tsunami and earthquake reconstruction of Nias Islands. He has strong academic background anchored in transport and development economics.  From 1991 to 2001, he managed various development projects in Indonesia.
