Federal minister for Higher Education, Sudan
Sudanese by nationality was educated in Khartoum University and Eötvös Loránd Technical University in Hungary. Is a Geologist by profession; worked as a field geologist participating in the geological survey and mineral prospection of the Red Sea Hills. He joined Juba University shifting to the academic world, teaching geological sciences in Juba and Asmara University (Eritrea). He joined the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army where he trained as a combat officer. He was a member of the SPLM National Liberation Council; a member of the National Executive Committee serving in the Energy and Mining portfolio. A civil society activist, researcher having carried out several studies for International Humanitarian Agencies operating in the war torn Southern Sudan and contributed to Newspapers in Kenya. In 1997 he published a Noma Award winning book ‘The Politics of Liberation in South Sudan: An Insider’s View.[Fountain Publishers, Kampala. Was involved the Swiss funded project ‘The House Nationalities’ for accommodating the Sudanese diversities. Was representative of Upper Nile State in the Council of States in the National Legislature (2005 – 2008). Since 2008 has been Minister of Higher education and Scientific Research in the Government of National Unity in Khartoum. He is married and father to five.
