Walter Hays provided leadership over a 26-year period for strategic and tactical implementation of knowledge gained through the United States Geological Survey’s ongoing program of earthquake research and postearthquake studies.
Since 1990, contributed to local, national, regional, and international scientific and educational programs through the auspices of seven universities, a local private Christian school, a national institute, two professional organizations, two Federal agencies, programs of the United Nations Scientific Cultural and Educational Organization (UNESCO0), the International Decade for Natural disaster reduction, SEISMED, RELEMR, and the Global Alliance for Disaster Reduction.
